How to rock your first Boudoir session in 5 easy steps

It’s totally normal to feel nervous and excited about your first boudoir session!

Expect those nerves to go away once we begin your session and TRUST that your photographer knows what they’re doing.  After all, that is why you’ve hired a professional, right?

In the weeks leading up to your session you’ll receive helpful guides and emails with lots of tips and tricks on how to get ready for your session so you’ll feel both physically and mentally prepared to have your photos taken.

These are my Top 5 tips that will help you rock your first boudoir session:

  1. Hydrate and don’t skip breakfast!

It’s always a good idea to drink lots of water and especially if you have a boudoir session coming up - your skin will look it’s best and your energy levels will be up.

Some clients worry about drinking too much water on a day of their photoshoot but we always allow plenty of breaks during the session so, please, keep hydrating throughout the day!

Another big one is skipping breakfast because they are nervous or worry that their meal will show in the photos - it won’t! Keep in mind that typically we’ll spend close to 4hrs in the studio (hair and makeup plus shooting time) before breaking for lunch so, please, keep your body nourished, you’ll feel energized and have a lot more fun!

2. Stretch, stretch, stretch

I like to compare boudoir photoshoot to a yoga session. Expect to stretch, arch and hold poses (and you might feel a little tired afterwards and/or sore the following day). Therefore, I can’t stress enough how important it is to start stretching or participate in any other type of exercise that makes you feel more connected to your body and mind as soon as you book your session. In the end of the day, this experience is about honoring your body so the earlier you start the better (and it will show in your photos!).

3. Try on your outfits (or let us style you!)

Lingerie isn’t for everyone and it’s not mandatory for a boudoir session. There are so many other options that photograph beautifully! You will receive our Wardrobe Guide to help you with outfit selection but the most important tip is to try on all of the outfits if you decide to bring them to your session! It’s all about the fit and I want you to be excited about the way you feel when you put them on because when it comes to wardrobe, confidence is key.

We also offer complimentary access to our Client Closet with hundreds of outfits, shoes and accessories in all sizes. If shopping isn’t your thing we’ll absolutely help you to find something that you’ll feel and look amazing in the photos!

4. Get ready for a FREE posing class!

At the start of each session I explain how posing works, we go over basics and I demonstrate all the poses as we go. By the end of the photoshoot you’ll be a pro! Most of my clients remember these posing techniques and I always can tell when they use them in selfies and photos on social media.

5. Trust the process (and your photographer)

Boudoir session is out of most people’s comfort zone and that you should be proud of yourself for taking this leap of faith and investing in YOU by hiring a professional photographer! Trust that they know what they are doing. Posing women of all shapes and sizes and making them look amazing while providing a fun experience is something that I’m proud to offer to all of my clients. All you need to do is arrive to my studio on the day of your session and let me take care of you!

I hope these tips are helpful to you in planning your boudoir session.  If you’d like more info on how to book your session in Panama City Beach, Lynn Haven or 30a with me, reach out HERE.
